Mary Catherine Elizabeth Anglesey
February 23, 1923 - January 4, 1972

Mary Catherine Elizabeth Lang [Betty] was born in 1923 in Calumet (Laurium), Michigan. She was the first surviving child of seven children born to Thomas and Rose Bertrand Lang, who had previously lost twins at birth.

Betty and her family moved to Detroit, Michigan in the mid-1930's. She attended Redford High School and graduated in 1941. Betty began to work for the U.S. government when she was 23, with the Defense Contract Administration Services (DCASR). She was still employed by them, in her 25th year of service, when she died.

Betty married Richard John Anglesey on October 11, 1947. They had one child, Rosemary, on October 13, 1948.

Betty was devoted to her family, spending most of her leisure time with her husband, daughter, mother, brothers, and sisters. She was a fun-loving person, enjoying parties, vacations at Camp Dearborn, Michigan, and spending time with her first grandson, Michael. Three months before she died, she and her husband enjoyed a wonderful vacation in Hawaii, and Betty was also excited to own her first brand new car.

Betty was also a talented pianist who played "by ear," having never taken lessons. She enjoyed music, often singing, dancing, and tapping her feet to whatever music was playing. She especially like movie musicals and operettas. Among her favorites were Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy movies and other classic musicals of the '40s and '50s.

Betty died from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident on December 26, when the car in which she was driving was broadsided on the way home from work, a mile from home. Her sister Pat, a passenger in the car, survived. Her husband, family and friends were shocked to lose such a vital, lively, young spirit. Her senseless death was mourned by family, friends, and co-workers.
